It was love at first sight, a whirlwind adventure. It was long walks along the beach and late night churro dates. It was running carefree through castles and jet-setting every weekend. It was the experience of a lifetime, it was my semester abroad.

As incoming college freshmen are packing up their childhood rooms and heading off to the great adventure that is their first year of college, high school seniors are embarking on an adventure of their own: college applications.
My own little sister is starting this process herself, and since I didn’t have anyone around to tell me how to go about the application process, I thought I’d make a general timeline of what you should do to apply for college throughout the fall.
Applying for college can be overwhelming, that’s why it’s better to spread everything out and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. You don’t want to be writing an essay at 11:51 p.m. when your application is due at midnight. If you manage your time well, you can get all your applications done while still having an unforgettable senior year.
Ah, move in day. The start of your first four years of freedom. I was walking through target the other day and passed so many groups of people buying “essentials” for their freshman dorms, discussing color schemes they’d made with their roommates, and worrying about all sorts of other nonsensical and entirely exciting things.
There are thousands of lists on Pinterest and all over the internet telling you what you NEED for your freshman dorm, how to survive your first year of college, how to deal with being away from home, and other things of that sort.
This isn’t one of those.
Instead, I’ve compiled a list of my college non-essentials. These aren’t things that you absolutely NEED, but I found my life to be a lot easier when I had these things in it. Adjusting to life away from home is hard enough, so you really want to make the transition as easy as possible on yourself, and these simple luxuries make quite a difference.
